About Mike Bloomfield
b. July 28, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, USA
d. San Francisco, California, February 15, 1981, by drug overdose.
Respected for his fluid guitar playing, Bloomfield knew and played with many of Chicago's blues legends even before he achieved his own fame, and was one of the primary influences on the mid-to-late 1960s revival of classic Chicago and other styles of blues music. In 2003 he was ranked at number 22 on Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".
Unlike contemporaries such as Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck, Bloomfield rarely experimented with feedback and distortion, preferring a loud but clean, almost chiming sound with a healthy amount of reverb. Gibson has since released a Michael Bloomfield Les Paulreplicating his 1959 Standardin recognition of his effect on the blues genre, on helping to influence the revived production of the guitar, and on many other guitarists.

Wasn't aware of the Takoma albums, must have been some of his last work. Of course his work with Butterfield and Al Kooper is some of the greatest music of all time and I have been listening to that for decades.

I was grooving on this record when he past, it tore to bits to lose this man. He was full of soul, a bottom less source of the blues.

Mike Bloomfield plays like a man that made his way to them crossroads, tracked down you know who, pricked his finger and signed his name on the dotted line to that little contract. But that dirty ol DEVEL went and gave him a taste for JUNK too. RIP mr. Bloomfield you are still one bad mother and will always be. Bloomfield always played - The clean sound...no pedals, definitely NO distortion poop , no delay's..just the reverb on his fender amp... Today , the kids have at least 5 pedals to hide behind... Mike , The Artist and a funny guy with crazy stories..
