Review by Dalyano Kay

M 80 by Monochrome Set is an album that showcases the band's unique blend of post-punk, new wave, and art rock. The album features intricate guitar work, catchy melodies, and witty lyrics that touch on a range of subjects, from love and politics to everyday life.

The album opens with the upbeat and infectious "Jacob's Ladder," which sets the tone for what's to come. "The Jet Set Junta" is a standout track that features driving drums and bass, while "Letter from Viola" is a slower, more melancholic tune that highlights the band's ability to create emotive and introspective music.

Throughout the album, the Monochrome Set's musicianship and songwriting skills are on full display. The band's ability to seamlessly blend different genres and styles is a testament to their versatility as musicians.

About The Monochrome Set

The Monochrome Set formed in 1978, and were influential in the post-punk scene that evolved after the initial scorched earth of punk. The bands early releases were on the label, but for their debut album(s) they signed for Virgin offshoot . They also released several albums on the label, making an appearance on that label's compilation. Though The Monochrome Set split in 1985, the next decade saw several reunions for both live gigs and further studio recordings, their album release count now being well into double figures. After a hiatus of over a decade the band reformed full time in 2010 and have since toured all over the UK, Europe, Japan and the USA, whilst also releasing new studio albums. The band is currently signed to the German label. 2018 saw the 40th year since the band formed and they were gigging worldwide to celebrate this while a box set compilation of their work up until 1985 was released as well. More recently, 2020 saw a compilation box set of their output from the 1990-1995 period.
